Karen and I set our alarms this morning and were out on our bikes just after 545. The light was just beautiful and it was 10km of exploring and photo taking. So delightful. I’m struggling to cull so maybe I’ll just indulge myself and post lots of shots from today (and in case I didn’t tell you, Boabs are my new favourite tree).

We headed out the 60km of gravel after brekky to Tunnel Creek. I was excited and a little nervous about this one. Turns out I didn’t need to be worried. While we did need to swim about 25m of creek inside the tunnel, it wasn’t as icy as I was imagining. The rest was wading through the water. Head torches were definitely required, and none of the resident freshwater crocs (the safe ones) showed their faces.

Kieran drove us back to camp after the adventure – as Kieran said, it did feel like we were in an Indiana Jones movie. Karen and I indulged in our latest craze – cryptic crosswords (thanks Dad!). Another enjoyable relax afternoon before we move on again in the morning, heading for Broome.

  1. Oh WOW! What an experience! This would’ve terrified me too but on completion a feeling of utter satisfaction! Love this adventure & the photos are out of this world.

    1. Kerri is a fantastic photographer. Love the boats too. Hard to take photos in the tunnel as it was so dark most of the time

  2. I’m guiltily catching up on your progress, albeit backwards. We missed Tunnel Creek as our fridge died the day before we were due there. Had to high-tail it to Broome for repairs. Stunning photos around Broome Kerri reminding me of our time there xx

    1. Hey Mandy! Not sure I’d still be reading these after so long if I wasn’t writing them! Touch wood we are relatively unscathed so far. Busted step and someone sideswiped our car in the carpark of one of the hikes on the Gibb which will need fixing when we get home. We still have the other half of Australia to do one day and will check your blog again when we are planning that one xx.
