We were on the road by 8 this morning which meant we were in Longreach and unhitched by 1030, leaving plenty of time for exploring. Karen and Kieran got the bikes down and proceeded to spend the rest of the day out and about on them. Bob and I took the ‘we’re not riding, it’s 32 degrees’ approach and headed out in the car.

We refamiliarised ourselves with the town and headed out to the Stockman’s Hall of Fame – which we couldn’t get tickets into last time we were here. The displays have been done very well and there are a heap of stories that can be listened to as you move your way through the exhibition using the supplied headphones and iPods.

I then got a bee in my bonnet for a cob loaf dip for lunch (as you do), so we bought all the ingredients and I proceeded to ‘cook’ the dip on the butane burner in a shady park. Yum!

Today has been a lovely day with catch up phone calls and down time. We are all heading out for a restaurant dinner tonight so I’ll post early before we head over. Currently chilling at the Birdcage Hotel in the A/C while sorting the blog.

Tomorrow both couples have different tours booked. We will meet up after lunch and proceed further east on our way to the coast.

  1. Hope you had a relaxing day. I guess the map on the lap top is showing your route? Does it feel sort of funny coming in reverse through the gateway to the outback ? Experiencing it in reverse as you have been on such rough terrain.

    1. Hi Louise. Yes the map is showing the route (I’ve got it as one of the menu items on the blog). Doesn’t feel funny at all. We’ve done this portion of the trip in the reverse direction to this previously. I know Bob and I are looking forward to heading towards the cost now after nearly 16 weeks in the ‘outback’.
