2023-06-28 Gumbanan Wilderness Retreat
Well today was a bit of a weird day. It started well enough with our explorer cruise getting cancelled again, as expected due to inclement weather. We headed to the restaurant and had cuppas overlooking the water out of the wind. Karen and Kieran decided to go on a cultural tour while Bob and I went looking for parts for our brand new broken generator….without success.
We met back up and Karen and I decided to do a jigsaw, and then we all played a game of rummy (which Kieran won), which is when everything went south…

Two vans pulled up at our sites and said there must be a mistake because they had been sent there to set up. We politely informed them that we had another night booked and they should go and check with reception. I then checked our emails…we all had it wrong and our booking finished today, which was unfortunate as we cancelled our booking for tonight at the next location yesterday as we thought we had double booked. So, many apologies later and the quickest pack up on record we were out and confirmed that our relinquished sites for tonight had already been rebooked…
We headed to One Arm Point for the hatchery tour that we missed yesterday and managed to secure a night at Gunbanan Wilderness Retreat. This has worked out really well and we can laugh about our planning mistakes now. Nearly 9 weeks in and we thought we had the itinerary memorised. Clearly too much wine has been imbibed… A lovely stroll over the rocks before sunset and even a peek of the sun as it disappeared over the horizon.

Tomorrow we head back to where we had initially booked tonight, at Middle Lagoon. So far the cape has escaped rain problems quite well.

Loving your photos Kerri.
Thanks Lynn. Contributions from everyone are being included 🙂
Beautiful turtle photo. Was it taken at the Retreat? Sounds like the mix up turned out well in the end
That was Karen’s photo. At the hatchery. We only saw a small shark at the retreat.
