2025-07-31 Press Repeat

This morning we were hopeful of getting out for a third day in a row to the kayak buoys offshore at Osprey. We hadn’t made it to ‘buoy 2’ (my naming) in the previous two snorkelling expeditions. However, when we woke it was clear the wind had come in a bit stronger than the forecast and we weren’t going anywhere. That opened the door to a much appreciated slow morning, with Kerri even cooking breakfast and fitting in some more…

2025-07-30 Snorkelling, Snorkelling, Snorkelling

**ALERT** If you have no interest in underwater photos then skip today’s post, cause underwater is all we did today 🙂 . Bob and I woke this morning after a very big night’s sleep. I think the nervous energy associated with kayaking off shore as well as the energy expended paddling, snorkelling and hiking following next to no sleep the night before caught up. We checked the wind forecast and decided even though a bit higher than yesterday we would…

2025-07-29 Snorkelling

This morning’s alarm I seemed to stay awake all night waiting for. At 630 Karen messaged to say she’d checked out the water conditions and we were all good to go. So then it was a frenzy of pumping up kayaks, packing dry bags and squashing ourselves into wetsuits to get out on the water just after sunrise at 7. Then it was around a 1.5km paddle out to the reef where there are a couple of buoys placed to…

2025-07-28 Mandu Mandu Gorge

Today was largely unplanned – the first day since we left home. Our day’s activities were going to be dependent on the wind – so we had our first cooked brekky of the tour 🙂 . After coffee and food Bob and I decided to attempt a belated catch up on Tani’s exercise sessions so headed out for a 1.5km walk to Sandy Bay as a warm up. Exercising was necessary, but hard given it’s been over a week since…

2025-07-27 Osprey Bay

After our unbelievable day yesterday, expectations for today were tempered. However, it still had some amazing experiences. Karen and Kieran did their usual morning exercise and explore while the rest of us waited until later to greet the day. We all met at 9am and walked to the Exmouth markets where purchases of local arts and crafts were made by all. Then it was time for Bob and I to shop and pack for the next 8 nights camping on…

2025-07-26 Whale Sharks!

2025-07-26 Whale Sharks!

Today was everything we could have hoped for….we hoped for clear skies, we hoped for low winds and we hoped for clear waters. Most of all we hoped for a single whale shark to be in our vicinity while outside the reef on our cruise – and we were granted all wishes. I have been up for 18 hours and am still buzzing… We had an early start with pickup at sunrise ready for the day. Once on the boat…

2025-07-25 Exmouth!

Today we travelled another 200km north. The corrugations on the way out of Warroora did seem to be less challenging than on the way in. Not sure if that is from the rain, or that the roads we travelled on yesterday were just so much worse! Once we had pumped all the tyres back up to highway pressures, we diverted via Coral Bay where we were keen to have a look around. The wind (while much less than yesterday) was…

2025-07-24 Maggies Beach

Well, today didn’t pan out how we all we initially planning but it was still so good! We knew there was some weather with wind incoming last night but were hopeful that we could still start the day snorkelling. That didn’t happen! But we spent the day exploring regardless and saw so much. We started at Steven’s Camp, where the snorkelling looked amazing yesterday….not so much today! So we decided to do the day’s explore and see what it looked…

2025-07-23 Warroora

Relocate day again today and we are heading to the first location that we booked back in January. We are at the southern end of the Ningaloo Reef and have stopped at Warroora Station for two nights. Jase and Sue left early this morning to allow plenty of time to guide Mav in through the 23km of dirt road and corrugations while the rest of us left Carnarvon around 930. We stopped to stock up on firewood and also to…

2025-07-22 Fruit Loop!

2025-07-22 Fruit Loop!

As is normal practice, this morning I nominated a leisurely start to the day and the Scott’s punched out a 25km bike ride before we opened our van door… Today was Fruit Loop day – a designated loop of around 10km with farm-front stalls and shops for fresh produce and cooked goodies. This region produces around 80% of the WA fresh fruit and veggies (which I understand as literally nothing is allowed across the border!). I really enjoyed the whole…
