2025-07-21 Carnarvon

Today was move day again. Life is much less hectic now that we are doing the majority of our stays for 2 nights. It will get even better when we start dropping anchor for 3 nights. This morning, Kieran went for a run and Karen took herself down to the beach with the stromatolites and birds and had brekky. It was only just over 200km to travel to Carnarvon and our only stop was at the 26 degree latitude line…

2025-07-20 Shell Beach

An early start this morning (for us, the Scott’s are up early every morning) and we were on the road around 730 for an explore of Shark Bay. We drove around 50km into Shark Bay to Shell Beach where we had breakfast and the Scott’s put the kayaks in. As at Hamelin Pool, the salinity here is about double the ocean due to the Faure Sill which is a natural barrier to tides flowing into the bay. One of only…

2025-07-19 Hamelin Pool

Today we kept our drip feed north continuing. After a leisurely start we filled up with fuel at the Billabong Roadhouse and decided that we would stop for a couple of nights at Hamelin Pool. So we drove the 80km and were here by lunch time. Hamelin Bay has double the salinity of the ocean which makes the water undesirable for most marine animals and perfect for the Stromatolite bacteria which form ‘living fossils’ in the water. The stromatolites at…

2025-07-18 Kalbarri

After our movie night last night we got a late message from Jase and Sue saying their fridge had failed and they wouldn’t be able head off with us first thing in the morning. We all decided to wait and see how the day unfolded and fortunately they were fixed and ready to go again by lunchtime, which is incredible seeing as how we were quoted 6 weeks to investigate our fridge alarming on our 1 week old caravan back…

2025-07-17 Chores and Explores….

Day 2 in Geraldton today and we all had chores to get done before we set out exploring for the afternoon. Both the Scott’s and the Allen’s managed to pick up a coveted free camping spot at the foreshore which is central to everything of interest. So once we’d finished shopping Bob and I pulled the bikes off the van and rode in to meet the others. The afternoon was spent enjoying the lovely weather and riding around the points…

2025-07-16 Geraldton

Mitcho’s were the slow starters today.  The others all headed into Cervantes before the designated meetup time of 930 and we had a relaxing start.  Karen biked, Kieran ran, the Allens checked out the town and we slept in, read the news, played Wordle, watched the news, made coffee and then decided to pack up. First stop once the travelling three-ship was mobile was Jurien Bay.  We will be spending a few days here on the way back down the coast so it…

2025-07-15 Pinnacles!!

Today was very bucket-listy! Bob, Karen and I were on the road by 6am to get to the pinnacles in plenty of time before sunrise. The cloud forecast wasn’t encouraging at all for nice colour but we were treated to a short burst of brilliance. We drove the 4km loop taking early morning light photos and then stopped to make breakfast off the back of the car of coffee, hot chocolate and pancakes. Not a bad way to start the…

2025-07-14 Traverse Complete!

2025-07-14 Traverse Complete!

This morning we headed out for a historical walk around York before sunrise for an hour. The place reminds me a lot of a large version of Morpeth. It has a lovely vibe and if I was ever going to come back to this part of the world I’d happily visit for longer. We moved down the road around half an hour and stopped at Northam for breakfast. Here we found the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Australia, which we…

2025-07-13 Wave Rock

2025-07-13 Wave Rock

Today was designated Wave Rock Day.  Jase and Sue decided to do their own thing as they’ve done it before.  To start the day we went and found Karen and Kieran and they took us on a walk to see Merredin Rock and the really cool dam system that was built off the rock runoff in 1893 to supply water to the railways and the town.  Then we started our lengthy trek for the day. As we headed south the land turned…

2025-07-12 Parkrun

Last night we made a late decision to go to the Kalgoorlie Parkrun.  Jase and Sue had a lot to get through this morning so didn’t get there, but Karen rode her bike and we all met over there.  The morning was cold but not windy and great conditions for some exercise.  Kieran ran all the way, Karen ran most and Bob and I ran some.  I really enjoyed it. The remainder of the morning we all spent doing various chores.  Bob and I managed…
