2025-08-31 Wooramel River Retreat

2025-08-31 Wooramel River Retreat

Well today has been about returning slowly to the land of the living for Sue and I. Feeling so much better and very glad Bob was happy to step into the blogging shoes for the last couple of days. We left Gascoyne Junction before 830 and with no stops we were at Woomarel by 1130. We pulled up to luxurious grass sites and had a quick recon to the artesian baths about 50m away from our sites (past the cafe…

2025-08-30 Kennedy Ranges (Bob again today as we are a couple down still)

2025-08-30 Kennedy Ranges (Bob again today as we are a couple down still)

This morning the plan was for us to go into Kennedy Ranges National Park with Jase and Sue, leaving about 9. It was obvious  that the girls were not in any state to do 120km on dirt roads and the walks at Kennedy Ranges. Plan B was that Jase and I would make the trip, and we left about 10. The drive to the National Park was generally on a well maintained gravel road, so we made good time to…

2025-08-29 Gascoyne Junction (by Bob as travel lurgy has hit and a few of us are going a bit slower than usual)

Today is the half way point of the trip, 9 weeks in. A relocation day today from Quobba to Gascoyne Junction. We were up early after some bad sleep and we were all packed up we left our water front site at 830.  In hindsight we should have enjoyed the Quobba beach for a couple more hours. A quick stop at the Quobba blowholes to see if there were working better than yesterday, and then on to Carnarvon to get…

2025-08-28 Quobba Blowholes

We woke this morning (or in my case, got up this morning cause I’m pretty sure I didn’t get any sleep last night) before sunrise and enjoyed the morning colours from the swag. While the swag is very comfy, it is certainly not a tent and there is not even enough height to sit which does make it very difficult to finish a blog on the computer once the fire is finished and it’s freezing and windy outside. This trip…

2025-08-27 Red Bluff

2025-08-27 Red Bluff

Sunrise this morning and we could finally see our site after arriving after dark last night. A pretty nice outlook! Today we spent the whole day getting to Red Bluff which was only 50km up the road. Karen and Kieran left before us as they were doing a day trip while Bob and I had planned an overnighter. It took us a while to load the car for a camping night, but we were on the road by 10. We…

2025-08-26 Eco Cruise

2025-08-26 Eco Cruise

We were up and out of the caravan park by 7 this morning in anticipation of our Manta Ray swim cruise. Manta Rays are in the Ningaloo area all year and there are currently around 1500 Manta Ray residents in the reef area. The day was sunny and the wind much lower than yesterday. We started our day with a lengthy snorkel out at the reef, with our eco tour guide pointing out anything of interest. We saw a couple…

2025-08-25 Coral Bay

2025-08-25 Coral Bay

Today was largely a travel day – and some of it in the reverse direction on roads we travelled a month ago. The morning was spent continuing our clean up from the ‘mudding’ and general washing/cleaning with unlimited water before we hit our required 10am caravan park departure time in Onslow. Then it was nearly 400km of windy driving. Fuel economy was very poor today. We rocked up to Coral bay just after 330pm, checked in to our site and…

2025-08-24 Onslow

2025-08-24 Onslow

This morning we woke not knowing whether we would be stuck at camp or able to move on. Karen chatted with the camp hosts and even though the road was still closed, they were expecting arrivals and departures through the day. The only concern was that if we travelled on it, we were voiding our insurance due to the road being closed. We decided to head off and keep to program. The road was already in much worse condition than…

2025-08-23 Archipelagnnnooooo!

Today did not go as planned! A week or so ago (before hitting the Karratha region), we booked a sunset Archipelago cruise for this evening out of Dampier for our last night before moving south. We woke this morning to a fire sky. What’s that saying? Red in the morning, sailor’s warning. Red in the night, sailor’s delight…. Well the red morning happened and it must have been a warning… The Scott’s exercised early and Bob and I didn’t. It…

2025-08-22 40 Mile Beach

Today was casual explore day. We started the day with Scott’s Turtle 2 showing off it’s new home. Mitcho’s Turtle 1 is feeling jealous…. After a relaxed start we all headed out for an explore on the bikes. It was nice having some cloud cover for a change and not being overly hot and worried about sunburn. Then it was back to the vans for a Tani workout session. It’s been a few weeks since we’ve done one of these….
