2025-08-11 Hancock and Handrail (Weano) Gorges

2025-08-11 Hancock and Handrail (Weano) Gorges

Today was another full one. Sorry but there may be too many photos. First stop was Hancock Gorge where we embarked on a much shorter (than Mount Bruce) Class 5 hike to go through the gorge. We scrambled over large rocks, scaled vertical walls over the water and eventually found ourselves at Kermit’s Pool. The water was unbelievably cold here. I wore my GoPro on my head cause I couldn’t hold a phone while doing this and got some ‘action’…

2025-08-10 Dales Gorge

Today was sort of like a weekend day – oh that’s right, it was… Bob and I didn’t rise until after 730. We set up our outdoor living space for the first time this trip where Bob and Jase investigated Jase’s coffee machine that wasn’t working. Not sure what they did, but it seems to be working now. I cleaned the caravan floor 3 times! Oh my goodness, Pilbara dirt gets everywhere. After their early morning exercise, the Scott’s headed…

2025-08-09 Mount Bruce

2025-08-09 Mount Bruce

Today was all about Mount Bruce. It is the second highest peak in WA at 1234m and the hike we all did today was 10-11km. The walk was a Class 5 and my knees felt every bit of that classification! The peak was 478m above where we left our cars, but overall the total ascent we did was 705m! We all headed off independently on the walk. Jase and Sue stayed at the free camp nearby last night. Karen and…

2025-08-08 Hamersley Gorge

So the bucket listing keeps on happening! We were all up early this morning to head to Hamersley Gorge. The Scott’s rode/ran and we went in the car with the Allen’s. Karen got some super early morning shots while we were still packing the car…. I have been looking forward to today since before we couldn’t do it on our trip in 2023. Other photographers have talked about it but I just couldn’t get it until I did it. For…

2025-08-07 Tom Price

This morning we dropped the bikes from the van and headed in to see the cave 3km further into the property. Kieran ran, Karen, Bob and I rode and Sue unfortunately has an injured shoulder so sat this one out with Jase. We were on the road just after 9am heading for Tom Price. Bob and I took the lead and let google tell us where to go. Around 50km or so up the road we realised google thought we…

2025-08-06 Our first Disaster…

2025-08-06 Our first Disaster…

We were out of Bullara early this morning to allow time for an almost 400km relocation to Cheela Plains Station, as well as some explore time in gorges at the station. The day started well, with really interesting geological formations as we headed further into the Pilbara region. We were checked in and parked up by 1pm and left after a quick lunch to explore the adventure trail. I was given control of the wheel as I think Bob was…

2025-08-05 The Table

Today was exactly what we all needed – a down day. Bullara is famous for its pies and they sell out quickly. Jason had already completed recon to the cafe before 8am and reported back to the group chat that lining up before 9 (which was when the pies became available) was advised to ensure success in getting the desired pie. All bar the vegetarian were successful in getting the prize 🙂 . Everyone has also enjoyed scones today from…

2025-08-04 Bullara Station

Today was moving day. It’s been a while since we’ve needed to batten down and prep for an extended traverse. It was an early start for us and we were out of camp just after 8am. We headed through to Exmouth and picked up a couple of things we couldn’t get yesterday before heading directly to Bullara Station. The others did some sightseeing on their way with Jase and Sue arriving via a diversion to Charlies Knife lookout. Karen and…

2025-08-03 Shothole Canyon

This morning we woke to wind (what a surprise) and light rain. We headed to the beach to drink our morning cuppas ready for the day and Karen and Kieran joined us. The Scott’s decided to spend the later part of the morning hiking along the Tulki Creek bed to the small gorge up further in the Cape Range National Park. This is not a marked track, however Bob and I decided to come along and it is the first…

2025-08-02 Perfect Weather Day

2025-08-02 Perfect Weather Day

Today we woke to no wind. We knew this was likely given the forecast, but it was just so pleasant when it actually happened. We headed out to Kurrajong Beach first up with the Scott’s and went snorkelling for a little while there. While there were fish, it was the lowest density and least colour of all the areas we have snorkelled so far. We then drove directly to Lakeside. This snorkelling location required a 500m walk on sand from…
