2025-10-31 Home!

2025-10-31 Home!

Last night we decided to push through and get home a day earlier than planned. So we got up and left when we woke. An upside of this is that we have an extra day to get things in order before returning to work next week. The downside is that the dinner that Ryan is cooking for all the family isn’t happening until tomorrow night so we thought we would have to wait to catch up with everyone. However, Tani…

2025-10-30 Fast track to Forbes

2025-10-30 Fast track to Forbes

An easy pack up this morning thanks to our drive through site for the night. We parked the van out on the street and headed to the Beechworth Bakery on a recommendation from Dad. After our late breakfast we headed to our Murray River cruise. PS Canberra is a 113 year old paddle steamer which is powered by a wood fired steam engine. We enjoyed a one hour paddle upstream and learned the boating history of the town of Echuca…

2025-10-29 Echuca

The start of the end! We headed off from Port Campbell this morning and the aim was to go where we hadn’t before. That resulted in some questionable ‘C’ roads that bounced the contents of our cupboards around a little. It was interesting countryside regardless, and we stopped for a lunch of zucchini pie (made by Bob, reheated in the car oven while driving) at Avoca – another repeat name from home. We topped up with bread at the bakery…

2025-10-28 Photography Day

2025-10-28 Photography Day

After a wonderfully long night sleep last night I was feeling much more energised this morning and ready to smash out another big day before this adventure draws to a close. And smash it out we did. I have been indulged by Bob and today was all about photos with the camera and tripod. It takes so much longer than with a phone but the enjoyment factor (for me) is so much higher. I’ve had just the best day to…

2025-10-27 Great Ocean Road

2025-10-27 Great Ocean Road

The eastward trawl continues. We entered Victoria this morning via Nelson and are back on the same time as home for the first time since the end of June. We are making maximum use of the Starlink while we are travelling and are listening to the local radio station from home while on the road (when I can’t be bothered picking a Spotify playlist) and the local news is getting streamed on the tv as well. We have had unlimited…

2025-10-26 Volcanoes, Crater Lakes and Sink Holes!

2025-10-26 Volcanoes, Crater Lakes and Sink Holes!

Well today was a very full one for our last full day in SA. It was mostly overcast, but thankfully the rain stayed away for the day and the mercury even got up to 17 deg. We started at the visitor info centre where we picked up a map and got the recommendations from the staff. Our loose plans that we came with weren’t changed so we headed on our way. First stop was Umpherston Sinkhole. This sinkhole has a…

2025-10-25 Rain!

2025-10-25 Rain!

Today we woke to rain… We drove in rain…. And we did our sightseeing in rain… But back to the start. We do seem to treat weekend mornings like relaxed starts – which is weird as every day is a weekend day at the moment 🙂 . So we only departed Robe around 10am. We did our normal thing on travel days and stopped at a town (Millicent) for a trawl of the Main Street and a coffee for Bob….

2025-10-24 More Pink Lakes!

2025-10-24 More Pink Lakes!

Another perfect weather day today for our relocation. We were on the road around 930 for a day of calling in to towns as they turned up. Our first stop was at Tailem Bend (a bend in the Murray River). I knew the name from somewhere and Bob said there is a motorsport park there where the V8 Supercars race. We walked the main street and found the very popular bakery where coffee was purchased and a Cornish pasty for…

2025-10-23 Mouth of the Murray

We finally woke today to calm conditions. First time in the best part of a week I reckon, so Bob and I decided to get the bikes off the van and hit the Victor Harbor coastal cycle trail. We stopped in first at the Tourist Info centre to get a map of the trail and get any insights into the things we should include in our next 24 hours in the town. Advice from Mr Tourist Info was that the…

2025-10-22 Victor Harbor

2025-10-22 Victor Harbor

After 5 days of sightseeing on the Yorke Peninsula, the wind got the better of us today and we blasted from the bottom end straight out the top, jet propelled by the gale force winds behind us. We called in to Port Vincent for the water tank mural art photo before stopping for coffee and a pie at the bakery at Ardrossan. From there we punched out 230km directly to Victor Harbor. We didn’t stop at Adelaide as just like…
