2025-07-14 Traverse Complete!
This morning we headed out for a historical walk around York before sunrise for an hour. The place reminds me a lot of a large version of Morpeth. It has a lovely vibe and if I was ever going to come back to this part of the world I’d happily visit for longer.

We moved down the road around half an hour and stopped at Northam for breakfast. Here we found the longest pedestrian suspension bridge in Australia, which we walked across (or in the case of Karen, rode across), of course.

Then it was a relatively short drive through rich farmland (and lots of grass trees) to the coast at Guilderton where we met back up with Jase and Sue and officially completed our traverse from East to West in 17 days.

We have seen and done so much in that time – we have travelled 4,807 km to reach this point with our worst fuel economy for a tank at 33 L/100km when the winds were howling in the wrong direction across the Nullarbor. Time to restock a little now and slow the pace.

Once we had caught back up with Jase and Sue and lunch sorted we hit the beach and Karen ripped her shoes off and dipped her toes in the Indian Ocean…..I understand it is still cold!

Then it was time to head north. We called in to Lancelin with the Allens to see the town while the Scotts went through to Cervantes. We carried on like tourists at the big deck chair, visited the surfboard fence and I wrote off my joggers trying to get a photo of incoming waves at the beach….

We’ve gathered info this afternoon about the Pinnacles at the Discovery Centre before setting up at a free camp about 20km away. We are finally staying at a location for 2 nights! Tomorrow I am heading in to the Pinnacles with Bob and Karen for some sunrise photography before meeting up with the rest of the crew to walk around and experience them in daylight. Looking forward to it.
