Today was largely unplanned – the first day since we left home. Our day’s activities were going to be dependent on the wind – so we had our first cooked brekky of the tour 🙂 . After coffee and food Bob and I decided to attempt a belated catch up on Tani’s exercise sessions so headed out for a 1.5km walk to Sandy Bay as a warm up.

Exercising was necessary, but hard given it’s been over a week since we’ve done anything.

The others all headed from Exmouth this morning – Jase and Sue are staying at North Mandu campground for the next week and Karen and Kieran have one night at Osprey with us before moving on again. With the winds increasing through the day after a windy and rainy night, we decided to hike the Mandu Mandu Gorge with Jase and Sue.

The Scott’s decided with only one day here they would snorkel and see whether the hike fitted in to their day. They were lucky enough to swim with a turtle as well.

The gorge hike wasn’t overly long (around 3km) but is still considered a grade 4 hike due to the rocky traverses and steep climbs. The first half of the hike was just us and the Allen’s, with the Scott’s joining us for the second half.

We headed back to the vans for the afternoon with the Scott’s, Bob and I finishing the day in the (slightly) sheltered Sandy Bay again.

Tomorrow the Scott’s head to North Lefroy campground for 3 nights so they are planning a sunrise kayak/snorkel before the wind picks up. We have decided to join them – not sure whether these fair weather kayakers who like to sleep in will live to regret the choice. Stay tuned for tomorrow’s update….
