2025-08-02 Perfect Weather Day

Today we woke to no wind. We knew this was likely given the forecast, but it was just so pleasant when it actually happened. We headed out to Kurrajong Beach first up with the Scott’s and went snorkelling for a little while there. While there were fish, it was the lowest density and least colour of all the areas we have snorkelled so far.

We then drove directly to Lakeside. This snorkelling location required a 500m walk on sand from the carpark. This spot kept me interested and in the water for well over an hour. Highlights were a few large stingrays (which didn’t show up well in my photos) and a large octopus (which also didn’t photograph well). Karen saw a sea snake as well. Very enjoyable with great weather conditions for what will likely be the last snorkel for Bob and I.

We made it back to the vans for a late lunch and then an afternoon of forward planning again. We have rejigged the program based on more research and discussions with travellers and got stuck into booking once the decision was made. Karen and Kieran also managed to squeeze in a trip to Osprey Bay and kayak out to ‘buoy 1’ before sunset.

Bob and I headed over for sunset drinks with the rest of the campsite at 5pm. Very relaxing. Then an actual evening meal outside for the first time in weeks! We hadn’t finished up for long before the wind hit again with a vengeance and everyone was battening down the hatches in a flurry.

Jase and Sue spent the day at their campsite and Jason was successful in catching a couple of rock cods from the kayak. Dinner sorted!

Tomorrow is our last full day on the Ningaloo coast. The weather forecast is for possible rain (and probably wind). Regardless, Bob and I have had enough snorkelling so will plan to fill the day on land. It’s been just the best week and a half in the area!
