We have definitely slowed the pace since Karijini – which I have to say I am enjoying. This morning the Scott’s headed out for their morning excercise which included Kieran running and both of them kayaking in the local waterway a few km away. Bob and I enjoyed a leisurely Saturday morning, caught up on world news, crafted and continued beavering away at trying to remove what seems like kilograms of red dust out of every item of clothing that Bob owns with very limited water supply!

Once the Scott’s made it back to camp we all headed out to a ‘local’ swimming hole (only 50km away) and enjoyed the changing scenery along the way. First stop was Mt Herbert where we completed a short hike to the top and enjoyed the view.

Next stop was a lookout just a few km further on. I really love the mesas dotting the landscape here.

One of the other really striking aspects is the red, shale rocky ground which still manages to grow spinifex. The contrasts look so good.

Then it was through to Pythons Pool. A lovely gorge and waterhole in the middle of the barren landscape.

Here we had our packed lunch and the Scott’s went in for a swim. Bob and I were happy sitting on the surrounding rocks and enjoying the scene.

We stayed for a while longer and I learned how to play (and lose) Farkle with Karen and Kieran before we retraced our path back to camp. A quiet late afternoon with more washing and early blogging for me. We might even manage a card game tonight!
