2025-08-17 Deep Reach Pool
This morning we arranged to head off reasonably early on the bikes before the temps got too high. Our destination was Deep Reach Pool which was a 16km return ride along a gravel bike path. The wind once again picked up first thing so the ride out with the wind head on was a bit of work. I also have smooth tyres on my bike which keeps me on edge on the sandy/rocky paths given my history on bikes.

Once we arrived, the Scott’s washed their bikes, I put the drone up and we spent some time relaxing in the shade.

The wildflowers are really starting to take off now. It’s lovely seeing the colours along the roads.

We retraced our path and were back at camp before lunch. We spent more time washing (with Bob carting bore water in a bucket to use in the washing machine, and making some touristy bookings at our next location.
This afternoon we caught back up wth Karen and Kieran for some nibbles before we had a FaceTime catch up with the kids for Tani’s birthday. We sat at the table with them for the evening while they ate pasta prepared and cooked by Ryan and Emily. We all sang Happy Birthday and dealt with really confusing time delays over starlink while we all sang 🙂 .

It was a really lovely catch up, and our mouths were watering by the end of an hour and a half so fresh pasta became the menu for us tonight.
While we chatted, the Scott’s headed out in the mid 30 degree heat to complete one last walk to the wetlands before we move on tomorrow.
We are heading through to Karratha in the morning. We have water and supplies to pick up before heading through to Cleaverville where we meet back up with Jase and Sue. Looking forward to a change in location after the quieter few days we’ve had since our departure from Karijni (and maybe just a bit less red dirt….).
