This morning we all left Cleaverville in dribs and drabs and headed for Karratha. The Scott’s exercised, the Allen’s fished and we spent some time dealing with a malfunctioning composting toilet…..we lose.
Once on the road, Bob and I beelined for the only laundromat in Karratha and set multiple washing machines going. The reality of living off grid is we can put as much capacity electrically in the van so that we literally never think about our battery charge, but water is a finite resource. I have discovered that of the 285L water capacity our van has, a single wash in the small washing machine takes 85L (the equivalent of washing a single queen sheet)!!!! So we have been very careful with regard to using the washing machine.
After far too long standing around waiting for the washing and being peppered with questions and far too much information from fellow washers we extracted ourselves with wet washing ready to dry when we arrived at our destination this afternoon. We hit Karratha and lined up for water, caught up with both the Scott’s and the Allen’s, and then had some lunch before departing for 40 Mile Beach. We arrived and set up a hodge-podge of drying lines in the breeze to get everything dried and then of course the first rain since the Nullarbor came in…..

We heard from Sue this afternoon from Point Samson and their afternoon was spent very similarly to ours.
Once the rain became a nuisance to sit in, Karen and I decided to continue the 1000 piece jigsaw we haven’t had an opportunity to touch since the Nullarbor.
A fairly uneventful day today (probably the first since we left home 8 weeks ago tomorrow). Tomorrow hopefully the weather will allow some explore time around here.
