2025-09-06 Parkrun

We woke this morning to horrid winds but at least no rain. Sadly, starters for Kieran’s Parkrun experience were only Kieran, Karen and Bob (walked 2.5km). With all the sickness over the last couple of weeks those of us on a tentative recovery path needed to keep ourselves rugged up. I went along and sat in the car until the finishers crossed the line and got some photos. Hoping to enjoy a Parkrun or two over the next few weekends as we spend more time in civilisation.

After the runners had finished we headed back and enjoyed breakfast at a local cafe to round out Kieran’s experience.

We headed back to the vans and by the time I got back I decided hiking in the Kalbarri National Park can wait until Monday as I’m fully invested in enjoying our flight to the Abrolhos Islands tomorrow. The Scott’s didn’t get to see the Hawk’s Head or Ross Graham lookouts yesterday and are looking forward to some kayaking in Kalbarri in better weather on Monday so headed out for some explore time.

The rest of us spent time around Kalbarri picking up some sight seeing at locations we hadn’t seen yet. First stop was Eagle Gorge and we were so impressed with this one. Great rock textures, a pumping ocean with all the wind and wildflowers galore!

Then we moved through to Pot Alley, Rainbow Valley, Mushroom Rock and finally finished with Red Bluff (feature photo). Great coastal scenery!

More wildflowers to enjoy – turns out after a lifetime of no interest in flowers, it is finally blossoming (haha) for me.

Once we’d finished at the coast, we head a few km inland to the Meanarra Hill Lookout for a great view in all directions. I’m sure this place would be great at sunset. Then back to town where we scoped out the local brewery for a possible meal out in a couple of days. Karen and Kieran couldn’t join us for this one as they were busy riding their bikes to Red Bluff to check out the view.

This evening Bob and I have enjoyed a lovely couple of hours catching up with the family for an early Father’s Day ‘gathering’ before Ryan and Emily jet off to Europe for a month. Flat out blogging now so we can get to the airport first thing tomorrow for our day trip.

  1. Hi Kerri, great flower photos. Especially enjoyed seeing the native orchids from the day before. A whole new photography genre awakens!
