2025-09-08 Nature’s Window
Let me start off by saying there are too many photos today. Scroll by once you’ve had your fill.
Jase and Sue were off early this morning on a crayfish cruise. They were out on the water at 630am and heard about the crayfishing industry and all the licensing requirements. After pulling in the pots, they were lucky enough to come home with a lobster each. Karen enjoyed a kayak in the mouth of the Murchison River before breakfast as well.

We all headed out together a bit later this morning to the Kalbarri National Park. First stop was the Skywalk – two cantilevered walkways out over the Murchison River gorge. Very impressive!

The Scott’s then headed off to get a start on the 9km loop walk at the Nature’s Window lookout while the rest of us had ice creams and cakes for morning tea. We decided to miss this one and spend a little more time at the other locations.

We headed to Nature’s Window and joined the throngs of people day tripping. We are certainly in tourism central now – possibly helped by the fact that today was the best weather since we arrived last Friday so everyone waited till today to visit. We did the obligatory photos at the ‘window’ and then spent another hour exploring and climbing further up the ridge that started the loop walk. Such impressive scenery!

We moved a few km down the road to the Z-bend lookout. This marks the location on the Murchison River that does a Z shape through the gorge, which was caused by a very large fault line along the gorge. The fault is a few metres wide at the lookout.

Then we headed along the river walk which included ladders and large rock traverses. Our first decent hit out for a couple of weeks.

We sat and enjoyed the ambience at the river before embarking on our climb back out of the gorge. We came across the machines that are the Scott’s on the way back out after they had completed their 9km walk at Nature’s Window.
This evening we all headed to dinner at the local brewery with Mel and Doug. Tonight is the last night we will cross paths with them this trip as we start moving south on a timeline at a faster pace than they need to. It’s been lovely having a few days to catch up and compare travel notes. We’ll see them at home again at Xmas.

Tomorrow we move on again. We have a few nights booked at Sandy Cape just north of Jurien Bay before we are in the thick of it in the Perth region.
