Today was designated to the Karri forests. We headed off earlyish with the Scott’s and enjoyed the early morning light with the monster trees.

Unusual flower spikes on grass trees

We had the best view of a dad and tiny emu chicks on the road as we were following the track. No photos, but cuteness scale off the charts. We haven’t seen baby emus this small ever in all our previous travels. Loved it!

The final leg of the drive was the Beedelup Falls where Karen and Kieran spent some time yesterday. The falls were pumping!

To finish the loop off we stopped in to the local chocolate shop. We enjoyed the spoils a lot and purchased extravagances to enjoy as we continue our way around.

Once done we called in to Pemberton for lunch at the bakery (surprise surprise!) and then spent some time fossicking around the town ‘swimming pool’ – a dammed creek that now forms a large swimming area for the town.

Then back to the vans for some super rare unplanned minutes before heading out for a walk to the Arboretum only a couple of hundred metres from our campsite. This area was planted with various non-native species almost 100 years ago to see how they would grow. We saw stands of NSW and Qld eucalypts as well as large specimens from Spain and the Californians Redwood. Very nice!

We headed out to the Big Brook Dam for late afternoon nibbles. The weather has turned this afternoon after our best run of blue skies and no wind for the whole trip. Dinner tonight was in our van with ‘UNO no mercy’ played to round out the day. Karen is currently winning.

Tomorrow we keep moving slowly east. A big day of sightseeing planned.
