2025-10-24 More Pink Lakes!

Another perfect weather day today for our relocation. We were on the road around 930 for a day of calling in to towns as they turned up. Our first stop was at Tailem Bend (a bend in the Murray River). I knew the name from somewhere and Bob said there is a motorsport park there where the V8 Supercars race. We walked the main street and found the very popular bakery where coffee was purchased and a Cornish pasty for Bob. He was planning to try one on the Yorke Peninsula on Jase and Sue’s recommendation but we didn’t end up getting back to Moonta to sample.

Next stop on our 360km relocate was at Meningie Lake. Yet another pink salt lake in SA! They are losing their novelty factor now 🙂 . Still very pretty though.

A little further up the road and we pulled up at the historic jetty at Kingston. Like most coastal towns on the southern edges of Australia, there have been multiple jetties over the last 200 years. The last one was damaged by bad weather in 1950 and it was decided not to fix it. I’ve decided towns rename their jetties as a ‘historical jetty’ once it’s been trashed and they have no plans to fix it.

Finally our last 40km drive was to Robe where we have decided to pull up for the night. We have stopped at the absolute best waterfront spot directly above limestone formations. Great outlook!

Once set up it was time to stretch the legs and have a look around the town. We pumped out a 6.5km trek along the Robe Coastal walk which included the ‘historic jetty’, the gaol ruins, the obelisk and some fantastic views of the limestone cliffs and offshore formations. The ground adjacent to the walk was clearly unstable with sink holes and arches everywhere.

The path we walked down over caverns

We headed back to the van for Friday evening happy hour overlooking the water. Feeling quite contemplative as we continue to close out the holiday with all it’s amazing experiences, while looking forward to getting home to catch up with our people and also wondering what is in store for us when we re-enter the work environment in just over a week. Eventually the cool conditions sent us inside after an enjoyable way to do a relocate day.
