2025-10-25 Rain!

Today we woke to rain…

We drove in rain….

And we did our sightseeing in rain…

But back to the start. We do seem to treat weekend mornings like relaxed starts – which is weird as every day is a weekend day at the moment 🙂 . So we only departed Robe around 10am. We did our normal thing on travel days and stopped at a town (Millicent) for a trawl of the Main Street and a coffee for Bob. This time I got a hot chocolate as well as it was just so cold and miserable. The outside temp shown in the car hovered around 12 deg all day!

We moved along to the small town of Blackfellows Caves (I know, I would have thought this place would have had a discreet name change by now….). Nice coastal caves that we walked above and would have really loved to put the drone out, but the rain just didn’t let up.

We moved on again to Cape Northumberland. Once again lovely limestone rocks along the coast. We decided to see if we could wait out the weather before we headed out to explore so sat in the van for a very civilised lunch and cranked up the diesel heater. Eventually the rain dropped to drizzle and we headed out without umbrellas for a look around. I did carry the drone but turns out that was too much wishful thinking 🙁 . Regardless, the views were amazing and we enjoyed our stop at the most southern mainland location in SA.

Then to finish of the day’s travel we headed straight to Mount Gambier where we have stopped at Blue Lake for a couple of nights. As is becoming our usual practise, once we were set up we headed out to stretch the legs and had a look around the lake. It is the water supply for Mount Gambier and is fed through ground water. The lake was an explosive crater formed 4-5000 years ago. Super interesting. Probably the colours will look better tomorrow (if it’s not raining).

Planning to spend some more time looking around the Mount Gambier area tomorrow before heading into Victoria on Monday.
