2025-07-03 Cuttlefish!

This morning we all headed out for a sunrise walk/run to Point Lowly lighthouse.  It was so mild compared to the last few days. The temperature was 14 degrees in the van when we woke this morning compared to 5 degrees yesterday! It was a really lovely sunrise and nice to be able to head out without a big travel day ahead of us. Today was our first organised tour for the trip.  Sue coordinated a Giant Cuttlefish tour a few months ago…

2025-07-02 Point Lowly

Well today we finally had that morning wake up where it actually feels like we are on holidays.  No early starts to hit the road as we only needed to travel around 200km today.  Bob and I enjoyed the frosty start to the day looking out the van window with the diesel heater pumping while Karen and Kieran headed out running and walking in the cold.  Karen got some beautiful photos while she was out. We didn’t rush to leave and hit the…

2025-07-01 Birthday Day

2025-07-01 Birthday Day

Today is Kieran’s birthday.  Last night we decided to head up to the mining memorial overlooking the city first thing and have brekky there.  It certainly was a very crisp, windy morning!  The Allen’s took Mav (their motorhome) up and we had piping hot barista coffees made to order.  A great start to the day. We left the racecourse around 10am and had a fairly leisurely drive through to Peterborough.  We are getting used to the emus and goats beside the road – although yesterday…

2025-06-30 Broken Hill

2025-06-30 Broken Hill

A very cold 8am departure from Glenhope where we headed into Cobar proper and orchestrated the obligatory rig shot at the entrance.  Sue also arranged some super cool  ‘Lappin Oz’ shirts for us all which she surprised us with last night and we all wore today.  Loving it!! The rest of the day was largely spent travelling and stretching our legs.  We have ended up at the Broken Hill racecourse tonight. Upon arrival we all went into a fresh food utlilisation frenzy as we…

2025-06-29 Cobar

We had a leisurely set off this morning as we only had a short(ish) drive to Cobar planned (and it was really cold outside).  After a stop at Nyngan to stretch the legs we made it to the Glenhope Bush Camp by lunch time.   We spent the afternoon out exploring the waterways and mines of Cobar before heading back to camp for a fire and  colourful sunset.   Jason and Sue arrived before it got dark and we have had a lovely evening…

2025-06-28 Back on the Road…

Well here we go again.  Two years after our last incredible trip around Australia we are doing it all again.  Different places this time, but with the same travelling companions… we are very excited to be sharing our adventures with Karen and Kieran who we met while still at uni in 1990, and with Jase and Sue who Bob has been friends with all his life and I joined the party when I met Bob in 1988. This trip will be taking…

2024-09-27 Cambodian Hero Rats

After some much needed down time after the Angkor Wat morning yesterday (where I can’t describe the level of humidity cause that would be whinging…), we headed back out for a 3 hour vespa tour of the countryside in the afternoon with 8 others from the group.  We got about 5 minutes into the ride when the rain started smashing down.  So with raincoats donned we rode on…. Despite this, we had so much fun.  Our first stop was to…

2024-09-26 Angkor Wat (by Bob)

2024-09-26 Angkor Wat (by Bob)

It was a super early start for a sunrise experience this morning at Angkor Wat. We left the hotel at 450am for the 15 minute drive and 15 minute walk into to Angkor Wat area.  Our Siem Reap Guide, Park, is a photographer so he was keen to give us a great Angkor Wat sunrise experience. He got us a spot on the rock wall looking across the moat to the gates and temple of Angkor Wat, and helped Kerri…

2024-09-25 Ancient Temples

2024-09-25 Ancient Temples

Today far exceeded my expectations.  First stop was the Tonle Om Gate which is the South Gate of Angkor Thom.  This gate is dated to the 12th century at the height of the Khmer empire and has a long causeway with 54 stone giants guarding the entrance to Angkor Thom over the 100m moat.  Each side of the approach had giants representing either good or evil.  I didn’t do much research about this place in advance but I found it…

2024-09-24 Siem Reap

After our afternoon of swimming yesterday, today we said goodbye to some of our travelling group and left the river cruise to relocate to Siem Reap by bus. It was about a 4 hour transfer on variable quality roads. We had a few stops, the most significant being the Napa bridge that dates back to 1200.  We arrived at the hotel after another 7 course meal in Siem Reap. The afternoon was spent having a look around the hotel, doing…
