2025-10-11 Cape Le Grand

2025-10-11 Cape Le Grand

Today marks the start of the last pre-planned chapter of our trip. We booked our sites in Cape Le Grand National Park back in early April (6 months out as per WA rules). Bob and I turned up before 830 to the campground to stake a claim on a site. We grabbed a smallish one with killer views and then noticed the van in the next site appeared to be packing up. Once confirmed we squatted on site 13 until…

2025-10-10 Archipelago Cruise

2025-10-10 Archipelago Cruise

The weather today was great! Started calm and built to what I imagine is normal Esperance windiness – which is still pretty windy by home standards, but not like it was on Wednesday. We left for the cruise at 8 – I wasn’t up for hours in advance today as the blog took waaayyy too long to do last night (for no good reason other than I kept procrastinating) so I saw 1am and needed some sleep. Bob and I…

2025-10-09 Wiley Head

The sun rises so early here at the moment! We are waking up with light before 5am, so we are up and about far earlier than usual for us. This morning, by 6am we had decided to ditch the morning walk plans and head out on the bikes in case it is the only chance we have without wind. We knew the forecast was for increasing winds through the day, so off we went. We were out pedalling by 7…

2025-10-08 Esperance

Bob and I were on the road out of Hopetoun by around 830 this morning for the approx 200km drive to Esperance. It was very windy again, however we were lucky it was a tail wind most of the way. After a nondescript drive where I continued knitting dishcloths for Sue we arrived in Esperance late morning. After some quick shop purchases, we had pies from the local French bakery in the bag and headed over to the caravan park…

2025-10-07 East Mount Barren

2025-10-07 East Mount Barren

**WARNING: Another photo spam day** Today was a great day! We met the Scott’s at the groyne in town at 9. We all transferred into our car and set off for the day. I was very keen to get the mountain hike out of the way before the temps rose and the trail became too busy with foot traffic. We started the hike around 930 and while I had been apprehensive about this one after my fail to finish the…

2025-10-06 Hopetoun

The days are getting light so early now. I like to sleep with blinds open (where possible) so this morning I was wide awake from 5. It wasn’t a bad thing as by the time I’d read the news etc we were up and packed and on the road by 8. Pretty good for us. Downside of the morning activities was that after a long shower (we were connecting to water today so conserving the tanks wasn’t required) the water…

2025-10-05 Munglinup Beach

2025-10-05 Munglinup Beach

Today was cold, cloudy and windy with the odd shower. We didn’t rush to leave our van at all. I even managed some more jigsaw time – the first since the rain in Kalbarri. A cooked late breakfast classified as a brunch before we ventured outside. Once we touched base with Karen and Kieran the decision was made to head to Munglinup Beach, about half an hour east. The weather wasn’t beachy, but the rock pools and rock layers were…

2025-10-04 Starvation Bay

2025-10-04 Starvation Bay

Not a lot to report today. Yesterday we arranged to leave by 9 and Bob and I hit the target perfectly after timing our get out of bed like pros….. Karen and Kieran went for an early morning run/walk and also squeezed in a wetland walk along the Bremer Bay inlet before packing up and hitting the same deadline 🙂 . We drove around 200km to Ravensthorpe via varied corrugated gravel and sealed roads where we stopped for a lunch…

2025-10-03 Fitzgerald River National Park

Today we decided to venture further afield for our last day at Bremer Bay.  The Scott’s drove and we were on the road by 830.  We headed to West Mount Barren first up via corrugated roads (Kieran let tyres down and the ride in the back was actually quite comfortable).  This hike was 850m  (1.7km return) with 158m of elevation.  A steep one! Today, things were not on my side.  Shortly after the start my ‘hanging by a thread’ hiking shoes became unwearable and my ‘not…

2025-10-02 Beach Day

2025-10-02 Beach Day

This morning we met the Scott’s at the inlet of Devils Creek to Bremer Beach. We took the vehicles on to the sand and set up for a leisurely day. The inlet is usually closed off from the ocean but high rainfall in the north recently has opened the sand bar up and according to the locals we are very lucky to experience the water like this. The water colour is impossible to describe! Pancakes were cooked for breakfast out…
