2025-10-01 Bremer Bay

I never cease to be amazed at the experiences we are having on this trip. Today was one of those days. After the sombre history of whaling in our country, to see what we did today was just so incredible. I’ve been buzzing ever since. I get ahead of myself though. We had a slow start today (well Bob and I did, the Scott’s did their morning marathons..). We had arranged to meet up at 9 and spend some time…

2025-09-30 Granite Skywalk

Pack up day again today. We are getting very good at it almost 14 weeks since we left home. Just over 4 weeks left of living the dream for Bob and I while the Scott’s will be staying away for a bit longer with their new status of retirees. We left before 9 and headed to the water precinct of Albany to the Hilton Hotel. We bought a 3 pass at the visitor info centre when we arrived in town…

2025-09-29 Whaling Station

2025-09-29 Whaling Station

Today was cold, but at least the rain stayed away, mostly. We headed to the Albany Whaling Station for the morning. This was Australia’s last whaling station to be closed in 1978. I wasn’t super looking forward to what I was going to learn today, but at least what I saw was historical and not happening currently. The Cheynes Beach Whaling Company operated in Albany from 1952 to 1978 when whaling was banned in Australia. Initially humpbacks were killed as…

2025-09-28 Albany

We woke this morning to intermittent rain and cold winds. Karen and Kieran headed out for a bike ride and ran the weather gauntlet unsuccessfully. We were on the way by 9 for the less than 1 hour move east towards Albany. The weather wasn’t encouraging us out for any exploring (not that there was too much to look at anyway). On arrival in town we headed straight in to the visitor info centre and got a plan together for…

2025-09-27 Elephant Rocks

We had arranged to leave at 8am this morning to have breakfast at Elephant Rocks. I didn’t finish my blog until around midnight last night and just assumed I’d wake up early as usual…..I ended up having the best sleep I’ve had for ages and Bob woke me at 745 to a mad scramble to get ready. We jumped in the Scott’s car and took the scenic path to the rocks. The day was cloudy and windy, as predicted. Regardless,…

2025-09-26 Wine, Cheese and the good life!

Moving day again today and we were on the road by 830. We headed straight for Northcliffe where water tanks were topped up. Then down to the coast at Windy Harbour. The coastline here is incredible so the drone went up at multiple locations. First stop was Point d’Entrecasteau where we looked through the ‘Window’ as well as over the cliffs at nearby lookouts. Spectacular views! From here we moved through to Tookulup Lookout. Different rock formations only a couple…

2025-09-25 Karri Explorer Drive

Today was designated to the Karri forests. We headed off earlyish with the Scott’s and enjoyed the early morning light with the monster trees. We had the best view of a dad and tiny emu chicks on the road as we were following the track. No photos, but cuteness scale off the charts. We haven’t seen baby emus this small ever in all our previous travels. Loved it! The final leg of the drive was the Beedelup Falls where Karen…

2025-09-24 Pemberton

Pack up this morning after four nights at Jarvis Estate was painful. We’ve really enjoyed our time out exploring but van cleaning and organisation went out the window for the duration, so it was catch up time this morning. The Scott’s were off early on their bike ride while we were an hour behind them leaving. We decided to take the longer route to Pemberton via Nannup. Purely because Bob saw there was a bakery there and I’m sure he’s…

2025-09-23 Quinninup Falls

What an amazing day! We woke to day 4 of weather perfection! No clouds, no wind, warm temps so we were out and about before I’d fully woken up 🙂 . Bob and I decided to pick up our coast explore where we left off last Wednesday in the bitter wind from Busselton. We hit the first point south of Canal Rocks and spent absolutely ages there. Wyadup Rocks were incredible with the pounding waves. We watched for ages. We…

2025-09-22 Cape Leeuwin

This morning we said goodbye to Jase and Sue as they move ahead of us on the tail end of their trip. It was another perfect weather day here so the rest of us jumped in the Scott vehicle and spent the day exploring further into the south west. We started at Margaret River where the boys enjoyed a coffee and pie from the local bakery. Then it was a case of heading down and calling into every coastal spot….
