2025-09-11 Leseuer National Park

A relaxed start this morning before we all headed out to the 18km loop drive in Leseuer National Park. We wound our way around the drive and saw the varied flora as we progressed. Lots of new wildflowers to add to our list. The variety of plants in such a short distance was amazing. So many grass trees! We finished the loop and headed towards the highly recommended Stockyard Gully Caves. Unfortunately, once were were nearly there we came across…

2025-09-10 Sea Lions

Today we woke to the gentle sound of the waves on the shore. The wind wasn’t anything like yesterday so it was explore time. Karen had criss crossed the whole place and was about to head out and find the location for Sea Lion spotting by the time Bob and I were out of bed. The Allen’s had explored to the south as well. Once we’d shaken out the cobwebs we went for a walk along the beach to the…

2025-09-09 Relocate Day

After our lovely catch up with Melissa and Doug last night it was time to latch the cupboards, hitch up the vans and keep our southward trajectory in motion. We left Kalbarri and travelled through canola fields on our path to Northampton. They have really taken off since we passed through on our way up the coast in mid July! The plants were taller than me – which isn’t that impressive on it’s own – but given they weren’t anything…

2025-09-08 Nature’s Window

Let me start off by saying there are too many photos today. Scroll by once you’ve had your fill. Jase and Sue were off early this morning on a crayfish cruise. They were out on the water at 630am and heard about the crayfishing industry and all the licensing requirements. After pulling in the pots, they were lucky enough to come home with a lobster each. Karen enjoyed a kayak in the mouth of the Murchison River before breakfast as…

2025-09-07 Abrolhos Islands

Today has been on our radar since we booked it in Carnarvon on our way up the coast weeks ago. We woke to reduced winds but intermittent showers. We headed out to the airport and received a call that the plane was coming from Geraldton and had been held up due to the hangar door not opening…. so a new series of wildflowers was photographed outside the terminal while waiting. The plane and pilot eventually showed up and we were…

2025-09-06 Parkrun

2025-09-06 Parkrun

We woke this morning to horrid winds but at least no rain. Sadly, starters for Kieran’s Parkrun experience were only Kieran, Karen and Bob (walked 2.5km). With all the sickness over the last couple of weeks those of us on a tentative recovery path needed to keep ourselves rugged up. I went along and sat in the car until the finishers crossed the line and got some photos. Hoping to enjoy a Parkrun or two over the next few weekends…

2025-09-05 Kalbarri

This morning the weather was a bit hit and miss (which was forecast). A bit of rain, a bit of sunshine. Not too big a deal as we were spending some time relocating to Kalbarri. Karen and Kieran departed from Fowlers Camp but not before Kieran got some great drone shots from above. We travelled with the Allen’s and took advantage of the ok weather to call in to Hawks Head Lookout over the Murchison River (feature photo). The wildflowers…

2025-09-04 Monkey Mia and Dugongs!

2025-09-04 Monkey Mia and Dugongs!

A beautiful sunrise this morning. The Scott’s were staying at Fowlers Camp and got to enjoy it in it’s full glory. We left the caravan at Denham and headed out to Monkey Mia at around 9. Almost everyone would be aware that this place is well known for the ‘dolphin feeding’ over the last 50-60 years. Times have changed, and it’s more about observing wildlife in the natural environment these days. The feeding does still happen, however, rather than the…

2025-09-03 Cape Peron

Another amazing start to the day where we all enjoyed our proximity to the beach when we woke up and walked/fished/enjoyed before breakfast. Let me start by saying my swansong in the swag went so well it may have convinced me it wasn’t the swansong…..time will tell. The light was really lovely this morning, although there was a serious dew that took forever to evaporate off the swag before it got stowed for the next couple of months. Once we…

2025-09-02 Francois Peron National Park

A repack of the car was required this morning before embarking on our 4wd expedition to Francois Peron National Park. I have no doubt that Bob had absolutely no idea what he was in for when we set off this morning. He should have listened while I was getting the info from the helpful lady at the visitor info centre yesterday…. After meeting up with the Scott’s in town we headed towards our first stop at Peron Heritage Precinct. The…
