2023-06-26 Cape Leveque

So I have to count today as cloudy day number 2 since we left home. I got up early and went biking on Cable Beach with Karen and Kieran. It wasn’t long before I realised the sand was a bit softer than the other day. I pealed off and left them to it and enjoyed the muted colour over the rocks. Packing was undertaken slowly this morning and Jase and Sue came over to confirm what we anticipated – they…

This morning we packed breakfast and headed to Gantheaume Point to enjoy it. It was actually a little cool until the sun worked it’s way into the sky a bit. We all enjoyed our pancakes, croissants and bacon and eggs on the beach followed by an explore on the rocks. We headed our own ways again for the morning. Bob and I decided to give the car it’s 2 monthly wash, whether it needed it or not 😉 . We…

So today we have hit 8 weeks on the road. Some truly amazing experiences that we will remember forever. It’s not all roses despite the curated blog. An update on the stats from the first 4 weeks… We have travelled 9920km. As I mentioned earlier in the blog, we aren’t specifically tracking amount spent on fuel, but the new record cost is $2.90/L at Warmun Roadhouse (only displacing Marree by 1c/L). Number of snapped UHF aerials is 2 (both the…

Last night Karen and I headed out for some Boab astro photography (did I mention how much I like Boabs?). I couldn’t find the trees in the dark that I had thought would be fantastic at night so had to make do with one beside the road. After some drone fun this morning (Kieran and Bob both had a play as well), we headed on our way to Broome. While enroute we had a chat with Adam from work who…

Karen and I set our alarms this morning and were out on our bikes just after 545. The light was just beautiful and it was 10km of exploring and photo taking. So delightful. I’m struggling to cull so maybe I’ll just indulge myself and post lots of shots from today (and in case I didn’t tell you, Boabs are my new favourite tree). We headed out the 60km of gravel after brekky to Tunnel Creek. I was excited and a…

An early start for everyone this morning – all from different locations.  We all updated the group chat as we passed through locations with cellular reception.  Today was the first cloudy day we have had since leaving home almost 8 weeks ago We came across Jase and Sue at Halls Creek while we were getting fuel, so travelled the next 300km with them to Fitzroy Crossing.  It was cool to pass over the recently completed temporary river crossing and see the progress on…

2023-06-20 From the Air

After another starry night in the swag we packed up camp early ready for a morning hike back at the domes. The light was very different from when we were there at sunset on Sunday.  We hiked to The Window where we all said goodbye to Karen and Kieran as they continued hiking further – they are staying another night in Purnululu.  The rest of us headed back as Bob and I had booked a helicopter flight over the ranges. The flight was…

2023-06-19 Northern Bungle Bungles

Well, we’ve finally spent our first night in a swag! The temps are getting quite low at night now so it’s much more comfortable sleeping. We kept the canvas rolled back and could see the milky way all night. So magical. We headed out on a quick walk around the campsite before the 1 hour 30km drive to the northern part of the park. We headed out on the Mini Palm Valley Walk. For the first time this trip, Bob…

Today was a bucket list day for me!  We had repacked the car and were back traversing the 4wd track by 645am to pick Jase and Sue up.  We then embarked on the 2 hour 50 km trip into the national park.  There were a number of water crossings to traverse with submerged rocks.  Kieran romped it in getting his van across them all. We set up tents and swags, had lunch and headed out for the rest of the afternoon hiking amongst the…

We left Lake Argyle this morning and headed straight to Kununurra (along with all the other travellers entering WA from NT) and finally managed to stock up our supplies. We were back on the road by lunch and rounded out the 300km trip. We saw a lot of Boab trees on the way as well as some interesting rock formations. Tonight we are at Violet Valley Campground with Karen and Kieran. It was a 13km 4wd into the campground towing…
