Day 3 of sunrise walks this morning – which was lucky as it has turned out to be the only exercise we have done today.

We decided to pop into the bays dotting the western coast of the Eyre Peninsula before a beachside free camp this evening, however the weather has degenerated significantly.  There have been periods of heavy rain leading into consistent gale force winds while we were travelling.  The rigs have bumped and swayed their way north – quite challenging driving conditions.

Regardless, we have managed to see some lovely parts of the coastline.  Our first stop was at Venus Bay where we rugged up and enjoyed the gorgeous cliffs over the water.

Next was a lunch stop at Murphys Haystacks.  These natural rock formations are unique.  Unfortunately while we were there the heavens absolutely opened and basically flooded the place so we were limited to views from the carpark (see featured photo).  We and the Allens have been here before and the Scott’s plan to call back into this part of the world at the end of the WA trip.

We then moved on to Streaky Bay, picked up some more supplies and huddled inside the Scott’s van to assess our options for camping this evening.  We abandoned our original planned location and have stopped at Haslam at a camp that we hoped would provide some shelter from the wind.  Not sure we have achieved that though.

We are at the red dot tonight!!

The remainder of the afternoon was spent inside the vans.  The girls came to our van and we started a 1000 piece jigsaw, while the boys watched YouTube in the Scott’s van.  For sunset we all rugged back up, leant into the wind and headed to the jetty.  We have all retired to our own vans for the evening and have battened down the hatches.  Looking forward to a drop in the wind tomorrow.
