Today was a day that far exceeded my expectations…partly because I had no expectations and partly because even if I did, the day was so good!

We started at Haslam after the windiest night I’ve ever spent in a caravan in 25 years.  830 was the designated meeting time in our van to discuss how to navigate the upcoming weather.  Another front is coming through from WA tomorrow night and we need to make sure we aren’t in the firing line if possible.  The decision was to head to Penong or close by to ensure we have moved out of the worst hit areas by tomorrow night.

Haslam Jetty

First we headed to Smoky Bay and donned arctic gear before heading out on the jetty.  Jase, Sue and Kieran all decided to spend some time squiding and once again Sue was successful.  Karen and I retreated to our van and attacked the latest cryptic crossword to escape the weather.

Next stop was Ceduna where remnant fuel, water and food supplies were picked up by all.  We squeezed in a waterfront walk here as well.

Then we departed and headed to Penong to the windmill museum and our first hole of golf along the Nullabor.  Some were happy with the results and some were not.  Scores for the par 4 hole were 5, 7, 7, 9, 11 and 12.  All I can say is Kieran is happy with the score and tomorrow we start again……

Then I REALLY wanted to head to the coast to see the pink lake at Point Sinclair (see feature photo).  We all dragged our rigs out on the pot-holed dirt road.  Super impressed with Mav’s slow but steady approach to the challenge.  I am so excited to tick off a bucket list item with only one problem with the first off-roading of our van…..the 2 litre bottle of vinegar in the pantry busted and partially emptied itself all over the rest of the van, like all over it……  Sort of OK with that cause we were starting to think we’d busted a water pipe when liquid started leaking from the bottom of the van.

Then it was to the jetty at Point Sinclair with just the most magical light shining on everything.  The squiders were back doing their thing and within minutes Sue had jagged another monster.

We ended up deciding to stay out here at a private camp ground for the night.  After some logistics getting ourselves into the sites we were all able to hot foot it to the beach for a fabulous sunset.  We met some fellow travellers, and enjoyed dinner around our campfire for a great evening sharing stories.

The weather is still set to go bad again tomorrow night…. We’ll navigate that one then.  In the meantime, life is good 🙂 .
