2025-08-30 Kennedy Ranges (Bob again today as we are a couple down still)

This morning the plan was for us to go into Kennedy Ranges National Park with Jase and Sue, leaving about 9. It was obvious  that the girls were not in any state to do 120km on dirt roads and the walks at Kennedy Ranges. Plan B was that Jase and I would make the trip, and we left about 10.

The drive to the National Park was generally on a well maintained gravel road, so we made good time to the National Park, and the 4 sites we planned visit were surprisingly close together.

The first stop was the Sunrise View, which was meant to be a 300m walk, but I think we did some extras here trying to work out the way. It had some interesting rock formations and a nice view across the plains to the east.

The second stop is probably the headline walk in Kennedy Ranges, which was only 600m return into a seasonal waterfall/waterhole called Honeycomb Gorge. We found a dry gorge because of the time of the year, with formations like honeycomb in the gorge walls. No photos of Honeycomb Gorge as it is a protected indigenous site.

Stop 3 was into Temple Gorge which was a 2km walk into a gorge. There was no water, but the rock formations and trees kept our interest.

The final stop was Drapers Gorge which was the only class 4 walk for the day, with a bit more climbing and rock hopping. Again an  interesting gorge from a rock formation point of view, but we were seeing it in the dry state.

The gorges were good to see, but with our recent experience at Karijini we are tough judges.

On the return trip we stopped at a point of interest which was an old cobble road in the area that was used to move agricultural produce.

Lower photo quality today, it fell on me to take them with Kerri out of action.

Dinner at the pub with Jase and Sue so the girls saw more than the vans and the laundry today.

Karen and Kieran completed their 4WD adventure today and were able to do the walks in Kennedy Ranges National Park this morning, before heading back to Gascoyne Junction to pick up their van and move on towards Shark Bay to get ready for their planned visit to Steep Point, before we meet up again in a couple of days at Denham.
