2025-09-13 A Day of Changed Plans

We woke this morning to weather far better than we had any right to expect based on the forecast. So we changed plans and decided to head out on the bikes. First stop was a shipwreck close in to shore in Cockburn. The Omeo was built in 1858 and was wrecked in a storm in 1905. It has become a reef and is used for diving and snorkelling.

We then headed in to Fremantle to the Maritime Museum. Most interesting sight on the way was the triple decker boat storage facility…

The museum had heaps of interesting info. I really enjoyed seeing Australia II up close. I can’t believe the Americas Cup it won was over 40 years ago!

While we were here we got the news that the Rottnest Island ferries were indeed being cancelled on Monday, so we changed plans and booked for Tuesday and will arrive at Busselton very late Tuesday now.

We headed over to the Gage brewery for lunch and while there it became apparent that the weather was changing for the worse. So we changed our plans from a Fremantle prison tour to a quick bike ride back to the caravan park. We made it just in time before the heavens opened and still managed 19km of riding for the morning 🙂 .

This morning the Allen’s did some more mountain biking before heading into Perth and saw the Terracotta Warriors display. They were very impressed, so Bob and I will probably plan to visit before we leave here.

The Scott’s also enjoyed the unexpected good weather this morning with some exercise before leaving Yanchep National Park. They undertook some chores in Perth before Karen rode 35km out to the van park in South Fremantle! I don’t have any photos of their day as it’s 1130pm and I think Karen may have gone to bed!

This afternoon we decided the rain was intermittent enough to head to the Scarborough markets about half an hour away. Dinner was to be street food from there before our evening out tonight. Well the rain set in and we never made it to the markets – got as close as over the road under shelter but it just wasn’t worth getting wet. So we changed plans and got a really last minute booking in Fremantle for Italian dinner before Bob’s tour experience.

The Abba Candlelight Concert at the Town Hall was so good! A string quartet played all our favourites sitting amongst the (fake) candles. Very Bridgerton! Thankfully everyone else agreed it was a great show as strings aren’t everyone’s cup of tea 🙂 .

Walking back to the car with the Allen’s we (read Jason) got distracted by a dessert churro restaurant and before we knew it we were all inside ordering food we didn’t need. But oh my it was delicious 🙂 .

Tomorrow there is a severe weather warning for winds so it could be an indoor day. Will see how it plays out.
