2025-10-02 Beach Day

This morning we met the Scott’s at the inlet of Devils Creek to Bremer Beach. We took the vehicles on to the sand and set up for a leisurely day. The inlet is usually closed off from the ocean but high rainfall in the north recently has opened the sand bar up and according to the locals we are very lucky to experience the water like this. The water colour is impossible to describe!

The point where the whales were skimming past yesterday.

Pancakes were cooked for breakfast out of the back of the cars and were enjoyed sitting at the water’s edge.

Then it was time to get the kayaks into the water and go for an explore. The Scott’s went out through the inlet with calm conditions to see if they could see any whales – but no luck.

Karen testing the waters

Bob and I headed upstream and moved from the crystal clear aqua waters through to stagnant sections of water – these parts mustn’t have flushed out with the tidal water movement.

After some relax time back at the cars, the Scott’s headed back to the van for lunch while Bob and I traversed the fast flowing water to get to the beach on the other side. Surprisingly, the water here is the ‘warmest’ of any that I have been in since we left home. The Leeuwin current is apparently responsible for this and Bremer Bay has consistently warmer water temps than ‘nearby’ Albany and Esperence.

We enjoyed a walk along the beach before heading back to the car and the hordes of people that had come to enjoy the warm and sunny afternoon in the water.

After a late lunch back at the car we headed back to the caravan park for a quick shower and turnaround to the Bremer Bay Brewery. This brewery will can any beer out of the tap for patrons at the bar. An interesting novelty. We all sat outside in the late afternoon light and all ordered from the bar. Kieran decided to sample the local selection of brews with a paddle.

I experienced a first here. I’ve never been to a brewery that doesn’t sell wine! As a non-beer, non-ginger beer drinker I enjoyed my burger for dinner with a Diet Coke 🙂 .

We beat a hasty retreat just after sunset as the midges began to swarm. We left about 30 seconds too late and now I’m insanely itchy…. trying not to scratch though.

Tomorrow we are going to venture into the Fitzgerald National Park for a look around. The weather is meant to be great again 🙂 .
