2025-10-04 Starvation Bay

Not a lot to report today. Yesterday we arranged to leave by 9 and Bob and I hit the target perfectly after timing our get out of bed like pros….. Karen and Kieran went for an early morning run/walk and also squeezed in a wetland walk along the Bremer Bay inlet before packing up and hitting the same deadline 🙂 .

We drove around 200km to Ravensthorpe via varied corrugated gravel and sealed roads where we stopped for a lunch break. I was excited to see the roadhouse was also a Pinjarra Bakery which we sampled back when staying at Fremantle so we headed straight there. Boy, was I disappointed. It was a pie oven with 5 pies, a sausage roll and a pastie sent down from the bakery, not the gourmet extravaganza we enjoyed a few weeks ago. The others still got pies and enjoyed them while the vego found a cafe and got a (very nice) wrap to feed herself.

Then it was another 80km through to Starvation Bay which we will spend the next couple of nights at. The weather was warm and windy when we arrived, which was surprising as the forecast was for rain most of today. We all headed out for a walk on the beach adjacent to the camp sites and watched as the sky grew darker. The rocks on the beach are quite interesting. A mix of granite and metamorphic rocks meet up with completely different colours and textures. No whales today.

We retreated to the vans as the temps plunged, the wind stayed up and eventually the light rain found its way to us. Bob has used the unusual down time to do some baking – zucchini pie (yum).

Post dinner entertainment tonight was a game of Canasta. After Bob’s last effort with this, I reckon no-one wants to be partnered with him so I volunteered to take the short straw. Bizarrely after tic tacking all night we won by a sliver. I’ve done my duty now…
