2023-05-02 Mutawintji National Park (and a birthday)

Our first no travel day today. It was so good to sleep in past 6am. To round off the anniversary day yesterday, Karen celebrated her birthday today. The weather was appropriately glorious and we decided to head out on a hike this morning.

It was a lovely day – aboriginal art in rocky overhangs, walking through the dry river bed, up along the ridge, rock scrambling and rope descents. We seriously underestimated the time it would take to complete the walk and were surprised when the walk tallied up to 11.5km. Bob was an absolute champion and completed the hike. A great indicator of what he will be up for when we hit the serious stuff in the next month. Knee has been iced and we will see how he pulls up tomorrow.

Tomorrow we plan to get going early and squeeze in another hike before we depart for Broken Hill for a couple of days. Now back to enjoying the fire and my wine…

  1. Great photos! A good hike to test out the knee for Bob and what a wonderful way for Karen to spend a birthday!
