2025-07-15 Pinnacles!!

Today was very bucket-listy! Bob, Karen and I were on the road by 6am to get to the pinnacles in plenty of time before sunrise. The cloud forecast wasn’t encouraging at all for nice colour but we were treated to a short burst of brilliance. We drove the 4km loop taking early morning light photos and then stopped to make breakfast off the back of the car of coffee, hot chocolate and pancakes. Not a bad way to start the day!

Then Kieran, Jase and Sue turned up and we walked/drove the loop again in daylight. It was so good! I have squillians of photos from today but am trying really hard to cull so everyone doesn’t get bored. Feel free to scroll on past once you have had enough 🙂 .

The Pinnacles are made from limestone. It is really interesting to see lines across all the rocks corresponding to particular water levels from many ages ago. Evidence of shells and coral can easily be seen in the formations. Really quite amazing thinking of what was occurring where we were walking millions of years ago!

Once we had finished at the Pinnacle Desert the others (not the vegetarian) made the call to lunch at the iconic Lobster Shack in nearby Cervantes. All were impressed and the vegetarian really enjoyed her vego burger as well 🙂 .

Then we headed out onto the working jetty at Cervantes. A load of lobsters had just come in and was being transported back to the Lobster Shack. We then headed to the beach lookout and finally Lake Thetis to see the Stromatolites (which were underwater due to the high tide, so we’ll see them further north).

Then it was back to the vans for our very first afternoon of down time! I sorted photos, Karen stitched our route onto her tea towel, Sue planned our activities in Geraldton tomorrow, Jase went for a run after he, Bob and Kieran plugged our land cruiser tyre that had picked up a screw. We all decided to embark on a Tani torture session and she delivered….

Check out Bob’s face! And this was just the warm up

Tomorrow we keep heading north. The others are all heading out early to bike/squid back in Cervantes. Bob and I just want a sleep in. We’ll meet up at 930 and continue the tour.

  1. Hi Kerri . Loved your photos of the pinnacles. Reminded me of some Australia Post stamp set back in the 70s or 80s which included the pinnacles. Does the official tour photographer get to skip the warm up session hip mobility exercises?
