2025-07-22 Fruit Loop!

As is normal practice, this morning I nominated a leisurely start to the day and the Scott’s punched out a 25km bike ride before we opened our van door…

Today was Fruit Loop day – a designated loop of around 10km with farm-front stalls and shops for fresh produce and cooked goodies. This region produces around 80% of the WA fresh fruit and veggies (which I understand as literally nothing is allowed across the border!). I really enjoyed the whole experience. And an added bonus is we have enough fresh food for the foreseeable future.

After a couple of stops we diverted to the ‘Cactus Garden’. While keeping my distance from the spikes I really did enjoy the mature cacti that were in this garden.

Then it was off to an organic farm. Chooks running around eating farm produce, but most notably were the frozen Mango and Banana choc coated ice blocks. I am not a big mango or ice block person, but wow! Once it had thawed enough for me to actually bite it, it was amazing. I think we are planting a mango tree when we get home…

We also met ‘the naughty chook’ here. It’s the one with the flouro jacket on – apparently it jumped a ride with tourists who found it many km down the road and had to arrange to deliver it home 🙂 .

We finished off the loop out at the beach with the seafood options becoming the fare. Then to Carnarvon township for another bakery lunch and a walk across the opening footbridge.

We then spent the afternoon at the Space and Technology Museum which was so good! Who knew Carnarvon had such an input into the early Apollo missions? The interactive part of the museum meant Bob and I could have a Galaga-off. Bob won….

Unfortunately Jase and Sue didn’t get to the museum as they are chasing why they are getting a recurring fault light in Mav. After spending the afternoon at the auto electrician they aren’t any closer to a resolution. Fingers crossed it’s just an alarm and won’t progress to anything more.

Later this afternoon we all met at the camp kitchen and booked through some forward events and camp stays. Super excited about the Abrolhos Islands in early September.

Tomorrow we move to our first station stay on the Ningaloo coast. Weather not looking amazing but I’m so excited anyway 🙂 .

  1. Chooks are such characters! Wanted to share two recent news stories which made me sit up and listen because of your holiday posts: southern right whales and calf spotted in Botany Bay and a news article on black wallabies thriving in Karinji national park with supportive of the local Rangers who track their numbers! Enjoy your day!

  2. We have a mango tree with beautiful fruit. Unfortunately, Mal doesn’t eat them, but the birds do. I had a few, and then, predictably, reacted to them. such a shame!
