2025-08-04 Bullara Station

Today was moving day. It’s been a while since we’ve needed to batten down and prep for an extended traverse. It was an early start for us and we were out of camp just after 8am. We headed through to Exmouth and picked up a couple of things we couldn’t get yesterday before heading directly to Bullara Station.

The others did some sightseeing on their way with Jase and Sue arriving via a diversion to Charlies Knife lookout.

Karen and Kieran spent some time traversing the Shothole Canyon that Bob and I visited yesterday. They enjoyed lunch there before heading to Bullara.

Once Bob and I arrived at Bullara, it was time to set the washing machine going (we can connect to water here, even without a power connection). This place has a really fun and cool vibe. We headed to the cafe and enjoyed station scones for a late lunch.

Could have looked way better but I hate cream so everything is on the side….

The scones were amazing, and the bar/cafe/woolshed had such a good feel about it we decided to head back later this afternoon to enjoy the ambience.

While waiting for the others to arrive Bob put a curry in the slow cooker and we headed out for a ‘hike’ around the station. Not sure it classifies as a hike, but an interesting enough look around some parts of the station.

We all caught up this afternoon together for the first time in over a week! A nice afternoon in the bar was had. Then it was time to head back to the vans to cook dinner and enjoy a fire. Kerri, feeling buoyed by recent successes preparing food invited all for a custom dessert to be shared around the fire – she bought the ingredients for this in Geraldton so it’s no whimsical thing. Well, things did not go as planned, and she was reminded in so many ways why she washes up and Bob does all the cooking…..

Let’s just say, when one’s husband comments that he thinks the caravan gas is running out, one shouldn’t interpret that means it is reasonable to turn the oven up to 240 degrees instead of 175 to compensate…. Once the apple crumble topping was burned and the apples weren’t cooked the disaster was served to the unassuming guests. Bizarrely, both Kieran and Jason didn’t decline when seconds were offered. Kerri leaped like a gazelle to provide more of her food creation before they changed their minds. The night degenerated even further when Kerri merrily poured pineapple juice all over Kieran’s apple crumble instead of custard. Seriously, who could tell the difference between these in the dark……

Anyway, no-one has expired yet and Bob has dealt with the cooking disaster in the van while I deal with the blog. We have another day here tomorrow and we are all looking forward to an explore.
