2025-08-09 Mount Bruce

Today was all about Mount Bruce. It is the second highest peak in WA at 1234m and the hike we all did today was 10-11km. The walk was a Class 5 and my knees felt every bit of that classification! The peak was 478m above where we left our cars, but overall the total ascent we did was 705m!

We all headed off independently on the walk. Jase and Sue stayed at the free camp nearby last night. Karen and Kieran were out of the Buddha camp bright and early to get a start on the walk and we were about an hour and a half behind them after packing up after a late blogging night for me.

The Scott’s caught up with the Allen’s at the summit and they completed the return walk together.

About half way up we came across them all so Kieran put the drone up and we got a quick shot before parting ways. The walk was definitely challenging. I do feel a bit chuffed that I got up there with my secondhand knees (although I’m paying the price now). A bucketload of photos below from Bob’s and my walk. Bob was chief fauna spotter today and got a couple of great photos of little lizards.

Contemplating the next move

We have moved on to Dales Campground for the next 5 nights in Karijini, although I suspect tomorrow will be a bit of a quiet one….

  1. Hi Kerri. What a great hike and those rock lifts look tough, especially hard for us with the shorter limbs! Would have been hard coming back down too. Well done!
I’m heading off on a challenge of sorts this morning: City to Surf in the pouring rain. Never seen it so wet before in August!

    1. Yes I’m hearing you! The most challenging part was not slipping on the gravelly rocks on the steep slopes on the way down, surprisingly. Hope C2S went well.
