We all left the Karijini area independently this morning. Jase and Sue headed directly to Port Hedland where Sue wasted no time getting her obligatory ‘big’ photo with the Wedgefield Wheelbarrow.

Karen and Kieran were early starters and headed back to Tom Price for a tour of the Tom Price mine, where they learned about the mining history of the town and were lucky enough to see a blast set off while they were there.

We were lazy last night after 3 hikes and blogging and left all our pack up until this morning. So we didn’t depart Dales Gorge until 830. While packing we found a very large spider had set up home in our awning anti-flap kit bag in the 5 days since we arrived.

Then it was 100km to Tom Price to restock the pantry and fuel the car. While there we found our spider friend had jumped a lift to town in our shoe box. We also bumped back into the Scott’s and arranged to jump into their car to head up the 4wd only track to Mount Nameless – which has the highest ‘road’ in WA overlooking Tom Price. The track up was certainly 4wd only. 100% Bob and I would have turned around at the bottom. Kieran seemed to enjoy the drive…

Then it was a late afternoon drive to our next location at Millstream in Chichester National Park. We had completed an online induction to allow us to drive the 100 or so km of dirt road along the private Rio Tinto rail road to give us the most direct route. Tyre pressures were dropped for the gravel section and pumped back up once we hit tar again.

To reach our campground we had to traverse the most horrid 6km of corrugations we’ve ever driven on. In Bob’s words it was a horror show!

We arrived rattled but intact and got into our sites in the dark. We will start exploring the area tomorrow.

  1. Happy Birthday Kerri. Hope you have a great day. Loving your travels. We are sending these wishes from Belfast on the 14th, so with time differences should get to you on the 15th. We are off to Scotland tomorrow but didn’t want to miss your birthday. Enjoy. 🎂🥂
