2025-08-29 Gascoyne Junction (by Bob as travel lurgy has hit and a few of us are going a bit slower than usual)
Today is the half way point of the trip, 9 weeks in.
A relocation day today from Quobba to Gascoyne Junction. We were up early after some bad sleep and we were all packed up we left our water front site at 830. In hindsight we should have enjoyed the Quobba beach for a couple more hours. A quick stop at the Quobba blowholes to see if there were working better than yesterday, and then on to Carnarvon to get some shopping done and restock the caravan for a few nights off grid.
Jase and Sue left Quobba Blowhole camp about the same time and got some chores done in Carnarvon for the morning.
Around lunchtime we met up at the high clearance car wash to try and get rid of the red mud on Mav and our van. We are hoping we don’t get hit with the environmental levy for removing too much mud?
We drove with Jase and Sue to Gascoyne Junction on one of the most boring roads on this trip. 170km of scrub and red dirt. The only point of interest along the way is a rocky water hole in the river, but it only has water after rain so we assumed it was dry. We did have to have our wits about us though because the road out here doubles as a cow paddock, and one herd decided to hold their ground and stand across the road eyeballing us. We are thinking they are naughty teenagers.

The caravan park at Gascoyne Junction was a nice surprise, with modern facilities and linked to a nice pub and servo. Dinner at the pub tonight.
Karen and Kieran woke up in Gascoyne Junction today and have attacked the 270km Kennedy national Park 4WD track over 2 days, so they are out camping tonight.

Tomorrow we plan to visit the Kennedy Range National Park to check out some lookouts and gorges.

Great write up Bob! Hope the van came out of its wash looking smart.
Thanks Louise, the van does look a bit better, but the big win was getting the red mud that had set like concrete underneath it from our 40 Mile Beach Campground rain experience.
Thanks Bob for the update. Hope the cattle did not hold you up for too long
They stood there for what felt like ages, but it was probably only a couple of minutes.
