A repack of the car was required this morning before embarking on our 4wd expedition to Francois Peron National Park. I have no doubt that Bob had absolutely no idea what he was in for when we set off this morning. He should have listened while I was getting the info from the helpful lady at the visitor info centre yesterday….

After meeting up with the Scott’s in town we headed towards our first stop at Peron Heritage Precinct. The government bought the working farm and shearing operation back in 1990 and turned the area into a National Park in 1993. It was really interesting walking around the old stables, shearing shed, shearer’s quarters etc. There is an artesian bath here that we may come back and try out on the way home tomorrow.

After dropping the tyre pressures a lot, our next stop was Big Lagoon. So many contrasting colours. We stayed and enjoyed lunch here. Karen and Kieran will come back and kayak here on the way back tomorrow.

Next stop was Cattle Well. Bob got a little lesson in sand driving and managed to dig in going around a corner. Nothing a bit of hand digging and putting the car into the right driving mode couldn’t fix.

We moved on to South Gregories Bay area after many more km of sand and clay driving. Bob was happy for some hard sand beach driving here!

Then it was time to find our camp site for the night. After no luck when we moved north to Gregories Bay, we were happy to find a spot only a short dune walk to the beach at Bottle Bay Campground.

We set up our tents/swag and all headed for the beach for sunset. The Allen’s fished, Bob and I enjoyed the outlook and the Scott’s managed to find a car (well a driver) in distress stuck in the water the next bay around and spent the time helping to extract it before the tide rose.

We have all enjoyed cooked dinners tonight with a very mild breeze for once – which is good as no fires are allowed. Up bright and early tomorrow to keep exploring this magical part of the world.
