2025-09-09 Relocate Day
After our lovely catch up with Melissa and Doug last night it was time to latch the cupboards, hitch up the vans and keep our southward trajectory in motion. We left Kalbarri and travelled through canola fields on our path to Northampton. They have really taken off since we passed through on our way up the coast in mid July!

The plants were taller than me – which isn’t that impressive on it’s own – but given they weren’t anything like that when we were travelling north it shows how fast they grow.

We all spent the travel day looking for the elusive thorny devil – a little thorny lizard that inhabits the areas around here. We’ve been looking for them since Shark Bay with no luck. Last night Mel and Doug were excited to tell us they’d seen one on their walk during the day. Their photos were so unbelievably cute for such an ugly little thing.
We stopped in at Northampton – a really lovely little town with all sorts of eclectic shops lining the main street. Along with a sausage roll from ‘Australia’s 2024 second best sausage roll maker’ I managed to pick up the wool I have been waiting on to finish my crocheted flower basket. I wonder where the best sausage rolls come from?
Then back through to Geraldton again to top up grocery supplies before the final leg to our beach front sites at Sandy Cape for the next three nights. Jase and Sue took a BIG detour to head out for photo with another big thing. This time the big tractor at Carnamah. In Sue’s words it’s the biggest big thing she’s seen!

This town also had the Big Grain Man, so another photo was taken.

The Scott’s and us headed directly to camp and were set up in time to enjoy sunset at the beach about 20m from our vans. A bit breezy but the beach was more protected than our sites.

We had our first fire since Quobba. Still quite windy, but we were motivated 🙂 . Explore day tomorrow.

Beautiful colours: yellow canola and orange tractor. I read on the ABC that the 5 X scale tractor required 800 litres of paint !
Wow! We were talking about that last night but didn’t know the quantity. Thanks!
