2025-09-27 Elephant Rocks

We had arranged to leave at 8am this morning to have breakfast at Elephant Rocks. I didn’t finish my blog until around midnight last night and just assumed I’d wake up early as usual…..I ended up having the best sleep I’ve had for ages and Bob woke me at 745 to a mad scramble to get ready.

We jumped in the Scott’s car and took the scenic path to the rocks. The day was cloudy and windy, as predicted. Regardless, we perched ourselves on one of the elephants for brekky and put the drones up to get other angles on the rocks (there are quite a few angles, sorry).

Once we’d finished brekky and enjoyed our vantage point we walked around to Greens Pool. Amazingly, people were actually swimming here in the sub optimal conditions this morning. I have to say it really does look like a fabulous way to spend a summer’s day in the right weather conditions.

We moved on and stopped in at Madfish Bay – another picturesque location that didn’t outdo Elephant Rocks so no photos here.

We moved on and headed to the local Toffee/Cider/Gin/Cafe establishment.

After tasting I have added a number of dessert sauces to the pantry as well as some Dukkah. Karen and I then ordered and apple cider tasting paddle each. The first time in my life (as a non beer drinker) that I’ve had a paddle. The cider ranged from dry (loved it), to sweeter (ok enough), to high alcohol ginger (not a fan), and finally to chilli cider (surprisingly palatable for me – even though I’m not a hot food lover). I purchased a few of the dry and we moved on to the township of Denmark.

When we arrived Karen and I visited the local craft display store while the boys did boring car/hardware store stuff. We both found a few handmade items that we added to our collection. Having spent quite a lot of time crafting this trip, I feel the hourly rate for people making these things is so low, they can only be doing it for the love of creating.

We met back up with the boys and spent some leisure time wandering the Denmark Main Street and calling in to shops as it appealed to us. After stocking up at the local bakery we headed to the tavern for a late lunch. I do think the whole town was here watching the AFL grand final. Lots of people, lots of large screens and a very efficient kitchen pumping out the food orders. I had the largest vegetarian spring roll I’ve ever seen…..sort of like a vego chiko roll 🙂 .

Once we were all full we headed back to camp where we indulged in a cheese/wine tasting. Out of 6 wines I sampled, 4 made the grade and 3 of the 8 cheeses have made it to the van fridge. We seriously need to move on from this region – the cost of it is delaying our retirement 🙂 .

This afternoon we have played a game of Finska in the wind before retiring to the vans. We move on tomorrow to Albany. Looking forward to getting some washing done after 8 nights surviving on our water tanks last filled at Busselton.

  1. Loving the different perspectives you get with the drone!
As for the craft items, the makers are probably retired & as you know their time is worthless ;-D
